CardLink extended until March 2028: E-prescriptions can continue to be redeemed easily and digitally via app.

Sevenum, September 15, 2026. gematik has extended the approval of CardLink until March 31, 2028. This means that Shop Apotheke customers in Germany can continue to redeem their e-prescriptions easily and fully digitally via the app. At the same time, the extension provides planning certainty for the transition to PoPP (Proof of Patient Presence) as the future solution for digital e-prescription redemption.

Since its introduction in early 2024, CardLink has become a popular and convenient way to redeem e-prescriptions digitally. CardLink enables insured persons to use their electronic health card (eGK) via an NFC-enabled smartphone and then conveniently redeem their e-prescription fully digitally through the Shop Apotheke app.

With CardLink extended until the end of March 2028, this established redemption method will remain available while gematik continues to develop the future PoPP infrastructure for digital e-prescription redemption in remote care. The product approval of Redcare Pharmacy’s development partner eHealth Experts GmbH (ehex) has also been extended accordingly. PoPP is designed to support different access methods: in addition to the digital health ID, for which gematik published a further specification in early September, the electronic health card (eGK) and, in the future, the EUDI Wallet are also expected to be supported. This ensures a seamless transition without customers having to give up the digital e-prescription redemption process they are familiar with.

gematik has also explicitly reserved the option to extend CardLink beyond March 2028.
