SHOP APOTHEKE EUROPE: CONSTRUCTION OF  HIGHLY AUTOMATED LOGISTICS CENTRE IN SEVENUM.

The construction of the headquarters of SHOP APOTHEKE EUROPE is continuing apace. In cooperation with Miebach Consulting and SSI Schäfer, the state-of-the-art and highly automated logistics centre is approaching completion.

With its new company headquarters, SHOP APOTHEKE EUROPE is getting ready to pass another milestone in the success story of one of Europe’s leading online pharmacies. With 40,000 square meters, the operations area in the new building is twice as large as before, meaning that thanks to the state-of-the-art logistics centre, the online pharmacy is optimally prepared for its steadily growing number of orders. The new set-up speeds up all processes related to the shipping of over-the-counter and prescription medicines, nutritional supplements and beauty and personal care products while at the same time further optimizing customer service.

“The new central warehouse is the last building block needed to complete our logistics project. We have set ourselves the goal of designing the best possible shopping experience for our customers in terms of portfolio, quality and delivery speed while also increasing efficiency," explains Theresa Holler, Chief Pharmacist and Chief Operating Officer of SHOP APOTHEKE EUROPE.

SHOP APOTHEKE EUROPE had commissioned Miebach Consulting with concept development, detailed planning and preparation of the tender in 2018/19. Starting in early 2020, the pharmacy furthermore commissioned the partner with realizing the central warehouse in Sevenum. Together with Miebach Consulting, a highly dynamic and efficient process with modular expandability was developed for the new location. Thanks to the innovative character of the jointly developed picking and shipping solution, SHOP APOTHEKE EUROPE is ideally positioned for future requirements.

In spring 2020, SSI Schaefer started installing the intralogistics components. Automated storage and picking areas as well as innovative sub-elements lead to great flexibility and high throughput in the 40,000 square meters-sized and largely multi-storey logistics area. Ergonomics were another focus of the concept development, particularly in designing the work stations in the incoming goods department where goods delivered have to be repacked into special containers. The entire system is scheduled to go into operation in early 2021.
