SHOP APOTHEKE EUROPE presents its dynamically growing business model at K5, the Future Retail Conference in Berlin.

In the first quarter of 2017 SHOP APOTHEKE EUROPE N.V. increased its sales up to 56%, compared with 41% in the 2016 fiscal year at 177 million euros. With the successful IPO, the company has created the financial power for its further acceleration of dynamic, international growth.

Growth dynamics and professionalization methods in e-commerce are the main focus of this year’s K5 conference in Berlin, which expects more than 5,000 participants. Strategy updates from leading representatives of the industry will be the highlights of this conference. In the context of a panel discussion on 23 June 2017, Dr. Ulrich Wandel, CFO of SHOP APOTHEKE EUROPE will talk about the online pharmacy’s successful business development and give insights into the ambitious growth strategy of the company in a dynamic market environment. Besides SHOP APOTHEKE EUROPE, companies like Zooplus and Zalando will also inform about trends in e-commerce.

With a broad presence in the seven most important European markets and as the clear No. 1 in in Germany, its core market, SHOP APOTHEKE EUROPE is the leading OTC online pharmacy in Europe. The number of active customers has almost tripled in the last three years to 2.2 million. On average, SHOP APOTHEKE EUROPE recorded monthly sales of 6.2 million users (Q1 2016: 2.8 million) in the first quarter of 2017, with a further strong trend to rise.

73% of customers repeatedly order from a selection of over 100,000 products. The return rate is only 0.8%.

While the European OTC market is expected to increase by an annual 25% by 2018, according to a recent study by SEMPORA Consulting, the target of SHOP APOTHEKE EUROPE for the current financial year (forecast 2017: 45% to 55%) is about twice as high. The company consistently continues its expansion course on international level: By integrating the business of the Belgian online pharmacy FARMALINE, which has a broad international customer base, SHOP APOTHEKE EUROPE was able to substantially expand its leading market positions in the Belgian and French markets and into several of its major continental European target markets, including Spain and Italy. The rapid growth in all markets increased the international business volume by 221% (Q1 2017 versus Q1 2016). Regarding the successful growth strategy, Dr. Ulrich Wandel, CFO of SHOP APOTHEKE EUROPE, says:

97% of people are satisfied with the online purchase of OTC products; best advice creates trust.

According to a representative survey by the industry association bitkom (March 2017), online pharmacies are extremely popular among Germans: 55% of Internet users, equivalent to 31 million people, buy OTC products online. 97% are satisfied with their purchases. The number of people using online pharmacies is increasing rapidly (2012: 33%, 2016: 55%). In addition to a price advantage of sometimes more than 40% compared to brick and mortar pharmacies, reliable and fast logistics, SHOP APOTHEKE is specifically focused on a multi-award-winning, comprehensive pharmaceutical counselling by specialists as well as new offerings such as application videos showing how to best use a product and provide helpful hints addressing the most frequent customer questions. The technological solutions created by specialists inhouse ensure a particularly high user-friendliness and excellent product presentation on all devices. Currently, 49% (Q1 2017) of its customers already use their smartphone or tablet (Q1 2016: 39%) when visiting its webshops.
